Benefits at UEL

At UEL we are committed to promoting our values of equality, inclusivity and diversity throughout our community of staff and students.  In keeping with this, we have developed a wide range of benefits making UEL an attractive place to work.  These include family-friendly policies, competitive salary and pension arrangements, a commitment to staff development, volunteering and a host of other benefits.

Pension schemes (for academic employees)

Academic employees of UEL automatically join the Teacher’s Pension Scheme on commencing employment.  As part of this scheme you are eligible on retirement for a tax-free, lump sum payment, together with an annual, index-linked pension.  Academic employees may choose to opt out of this scheme and instead opt to join the UEL Retirement and Savings Plan.  This plan is a generous non-contributory defined contribution scheme which offers a 10% employer contribution without employee contribution, matching employer contributions on a ratio of 1.5 : 1 up to a maximum additional employer contribution of 6%, and the same ill health salary protection and death in service benefits as provided by the defined benefit schemes.
