At UEL, we pride ourselves on the real-world relevance of our courses and research and the impact we are making in our east London community and the wider world. We are an open and inclusive university that is focused on transforming the lives of our students. As part of its commitment to high quality teaching as measured by the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), the Department of Engineering and Computing will be appointing a talented academic who will deliver teaching in one or more areas of cyber security and networks, internet of things, web and mobile applications development, software engineering, cloud computing, distributed systems and professional life skills. You are expected to be adopting the latest teaching pedagogy and develop good practice, taking full advantage of teaching and assessment tools and technological advancement.  You will also contribute to and participate in University led and/or College initiatives and developments in line with strategic plans and KPIs.

Our leading academics and practitioners from our Computer Science and Digital Technologies (CDT) cluster have contributed towards UK parliamentary reports, public sector and policy making departments and widely covered by various media (i.e. BBC, The Times, Sky News etc.) for their state-of-the-art research on AI, data science, dark web and cybersecurity. CDT programmes were ranked at 1st place in London for overall student satisfaction and 5th in the UK out of 107 higher education institutions (National Student Survey 2018). Our programmes are industry focused, with all programmes either professionally accredited by the British Computer Society or adhering to other professional standards. A range of modules focused on in-demand computing skills such as cyber security, mobile app development and AI, as well as embedded work-placement based learning, ensures students will be industry-ready upon graduation and ready to meet the demands of the global digital revolution. Some of our former professional students were data analysts from local councils, a chief software architect from Bermuda, a business manager with EDF Energy and a system design analyst with Microsoft, to name a few. Our apprenticeship degree programme is accredited by The Technology Partnership and is designed to equip apprentices with the skills needed to thrive in the rapidly changing London economy and beyond. You will be based at our award-winning waterfront Docklands campus housing specialist laboratories configured with the latest equipment and software. Our alumni range from an information security architect working at the New York Stock Exchange to entrepreneurs running a successful award-winning game design company (DinoByte labs), just to name a few.

You are expected to be educated to a degree level in computer science or a closely related subject area, with a higher degree and/or significant relevant experience. You will have experience of teaching in a HE environment with an ability to innovate and use creative teaching strategies. You will be expected to lead programme(s) should you be employed as our senior lecturer.
