About the School / Service
The School of Architecture, Computing and Engineering (ACE) at the University of East London is home to a wide range of innovative and industry-focused courses, from Mechatronics, Biomedical, and Electrical Vehicles Engineering to Civil, Structural and Robotic Engineering. About the Job
We are looking for a Technical Associate (Engineering – Electrical, Electronics, and Robotics) to join our team at the University of East London. This is an exciting opportunity to support teaching, learning, and research within our specialist laboratories and workshops. You will play a key role in maintaining and demonstrating technical equipment, supporting students and staff, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
Essential Experience Required
- To support the academic courses and research of the students and staff of the University at an intermediate or advanced level of competency.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and protocols in technical environments at an advanced level of competency.
- Provide first-line technical support to staff and students in the form of, but not limited to, teaching and demonstrations using lab spaces and equipment.
- Collaborate with Staff, students and course teams to understand technical requirements and provide technical expertise and support to coursework, exhibitions and research.
- Conduct and oversee regular maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of technical software and technical equipment (such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, multi-meters and training kits/boards) to ensure optimal performance and safety, including but not limited to PAT testing of tools and equipment.
- Conduct regular inventory checks, monitor supplies, and order necessary equipment or components as needed.
About You
You should have:
- Intermediate experience in electrical/electronics devices’ operation, maintenance and repair; electrical testing and measurement; electric vehicles, and related fields.
- Intermediate experience of working in a small team.
- Intermediate capability of using suite of equipment/applications relevant for Electrical/Electronics Engineering.
- Advanced knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and good practices applicable to the technical group.
- Experience working in Higher Education or an educational setting.
