The school plays a key role within the Stratford Health Campus, supporting professional education, applied research, and practice-based learning.</p><p>Within the School, the Department of Social Work, Counselling and Social Care delivers a well-established portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate counselling programmes, many of which are professionally accredited and strongly connected to clinical practice and employability.</p><p><strong>About the Job</strong></p><p>We are seeking a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Counselling and Psychotherapy to contribute to teaching, research, clinical supervision, and academic leadership across our undergraduate and postgraduate counselling provision.</p><p>The post holder will contribute to the academic, professional, research, and administrative activities of the Counselling Cluster within the Department of Social Work, Counselling and Social Care, and, where appropriate, across the wider School. The role includes module leadership, teaching across a range of counselling-related subjects, assessment and feedback, supervision of student research projects, and participation in admissions, recruitment, and academic administration.</p><p>Teaching will be delivered primarily face-to-face at our Stratford Campus, with some online delivery as required. The role also involves providing high-quality clinical supervision and supporting students to integrate theory, research, and professional practice in line with BACP and other relevant professional standards.</p><p>The post holder will be expected to engage in scholarly activity and contribute to the continued development and growth of the counselling portfolio, as well as to the wider research culture of the Department and School.</p><p><strong>About You</strong></p><p>We are looking for an enthusiastic, student-focused academic and practitioner who is passionate about counselling education, clinical practice, and widening participation in higher education.</p><p>You will hold a BACP-accredited postgraduate qualification in Counselling and Psychotherapy and/or Counselling and Coaching and be qualified to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You will be registered with a relevant professional body (preferably BACP), ideally accredited or eligible to apply for accreditation.</p><p>You will be able to demonstrate significant experience of counselling practice, alongside experience of teaching and/or training in higher education or a comparable professional context. Experience of clinical supervision, research supervision, module leadership, and curriculum development is highly desirable, as is a strong commitment to scholarly activity and professional development.</p><p>You will bring excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills, and a clear commitment to inclusive, ethical, and reflective practice. This includes teaching across theoretical and applied components of the course (e.g., health and wellbeing at work; assessing and developing individuals in the workplace; work design, organizational change and development; leading and motivating people at work). Our aim is to have clear pathways for applicants at a wide range of starting points, including the School&rsquo;s New Beginnings course, up to Doctoral level and professional accreditation.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: inherit;">Our teaching embeds critical thinking, real-life case applications, and skills aligned with professional roles in social care. In 2026, our students will have access to placements, and the opportunity to set up peer support groups aligned with their developing expertise, in our Community Counselling Service in the UEL Neighbourhood Health Hub.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: inherit;">Research conducted by staff in the department is explicitly grounded in the needs of our local communities and at-risk populations. We aim to do the work that can be best done in our location. Our research regularly influences public health practice, national policy, and international debates on social and community care, mental health and wellbeing, and inclusion/access to justice for minoritised/marginalised groups.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: inherit;"><strong>About the Job</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-size: inherit;">The role will involve leading and managing the Department of Social Work, Counselling and Social Care, delivering excellence across the full portfolio of academic programmes and activities, within the context of the operational and strategic development of the School, and in support of the achievement of the School&rsquo;s KPIs and UEL&rsquo;s Vision 2028.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: inherit;">As Head of Department, you will be part of the School&rsquo;s Executive Team.
